VMWare, Owned by EMC, Owns Virtualization

VMWare, the current leading in virtualization.

Generally people don’t expect any one company to outrank the technology. But have a look at these two graphs:

I have compared Linksys, who is a major player in the wireless industry, currently owned by Cisco Systems compared to the term wireless. (that may include wireless phones)
Here is the Google Trends Graph:

Now compare that to VMWare Verse Virtualization (the US Spelling)

There is a huge market and the question is, is there room for another player or does VMWare have the industry on lock down. VMWare has such a controlling interest in the industry. But the interesting factor is, that EMC owns them and that causes a slight problem. I have read recently the EMC, who produces high quality storage equipment, has had to step back and let VMWare run on it’s own to prevent it’s own product line from getting in the way and blocking the subsidiaries success. If VMWare focused on EMC’s hardware, and didn’t pay attention to HP and other major vendors it wouldn’t be as big as it is today.

VMWare has recently announced and released some amazing products. The biggest news is the virtual machine converters. The biggest hurdle of P to V (physical to Virtual) is the first step. Now with VMWare Converter 3.0 “Use the intuitive wizard-driven interface of VMware Converter to convert your physical machines to virtual machines. VMware Converter quickly converts Microsoft Windows based physical machines and third party image formats to VMware virtual machines. It also converts virtual machines between VMware platforms. Automate and simplify physical to virtual machine conversions as well as conversions between virtual machine formats with VMware Converter,” according to their site.
